    Traditional flavors

Our focus is to bring the region straight to your plate.

In the hut’s kitchen, Joël prepares each dish with a genuine love for good, honest cooking. After working as a chef in many different settings, he now cooks at 1,500 meters, focusing on traditional mountain dishes like classic polenta with spezzatino or a comforting bowl of minestrone.

We like to keep things close to home. Whenever we can, we source our products directly from local producers here in Ticino. It’s nice to know the people behind what we serve — and you can really taste the difference. The same goes for our wine and drinks menu.

We´re choosing what we genuinely enjoy and love to share.

Where Good Food Brings People Together

You´re planning a celebration and looking for a place that combines a great panorama and comfort food? Baita Arami is the perfect choice for family get togethers, birthday celebrations for kids and adults or even a laid back wedding in an intimate setting.

We host banquets, apéro buffets, or themed dinners. The hut has two separate rooms and, depending on the setup, comfortably fits around 30 guests in total.

    Events & Workshops

    In Cooperation with Local Creators

Each season, we organise different workshops, concerts, meditations and more in collaboration with local partners. Take a look at what’s happening this season, and simply write or call us if you’d like to join or even organize an event by us yourself.

    Getting here

Choose your path: hike, bike, or drive.

Baita Arami is located on the Alpe Arami, from which it takes its name. It lies in the Swiss Pre-Alps, in the canton of Ticino, just thirty minutes from Bellinzona.

Via Monti, 6518 Gorduno, Ticino, Switzerland

    By car

Easily accessible from the highway A2, after exiting at Bellinzona Nord the 11km long winding mountain road goes up towards Baita Arami. When reaching the parking at the very end of the road it’s a 10 minute walk to the hut.

Please note: the last 1 km is a gravel road, which may not be suitable for low cars.

The Patriziato of Gorduno asks for a contribution of 7CHF/24hrs to be able to access the road. Payment is possible with TWINT or in cash (EUR or CHF, parking meter here). Other options to pay the fee are at the counter of the municipality of Bellinzona, the «Bottega del Paes» and the «Antichi Sapori» restaurant in Gorduno.

For up to date info visit http://patriziatogorduno.ch/

    Hiking

There are two route options, both best enjoyed over two days. A daytrip is also possible.

    Duration 3,30h  |   Elevation 1170m

Gorduno can be reached by public bus from Bellinzona Train station. Bellinzona is well connected to major cities in Switzerland like Zurich (around 1hr 45min) and also Milan. To check out the train schedule check sbb.ch.

From the bus station in Gorduno up to Alpe Arami the way is sign posted. For details about the hike check out this article.

Once you have reached our hut you can enjoy a hearty meal and stay the night to be ready to walk up to Capanna Albagno and alternatively the Gaggio mountain the next day. From there you reach Mornera and can take the cable car back down into the valley (Monte Carasso). Check the cable car schedule here (best to be booked ahead). The public bus brings you back directly to Bellinzona.

    Duration  3h   |   Elevation 680m

Monte Carasso can be reached by public bus from Bellinzona train station. From there take the cable car till Station Mornera (1334m) – book ahead! Then continue from there towards Alpe Arami, passing by Capanna Albagno on the way.

Alternatively you can also take the path over Monda instead of Capanna Albagno (for this route calculate 3,15hrs and 660m elevation).

To make the adventure complete you can additionally conquer the peak of the Gaggio mountain (2267m). Calculate 1 hr 30 min and 397m elevation to reach the summit from Albagno.

Once you reach Baita Arami a warm meal and cozy bed is waiting for you. The next day walk down to Gorduno (2hrs 30min, all downhill), where you´ll again find a bus station

If you’re looking for a shorter adventure, you can drive up Via Monti to a higher starting point (Sassa, Biancaresc or Bedretto) and hike from there. Take your time, soak in the views, then refuel with lunch on our sunny terrace before hiking back down. This is also a great choice for families with children or anyone wanting a lighter day on the trail.

    By (E)-Bike

Popular especially among E-bikers, the steep and winding road up to Alpe Arami is both challenging and rewarding. From the start in Gorduno to the Baita, the route covers 11 km. Most of the road is paved, with the final kilometer turning into gravel. After a total elevation gain of 1,200 m you can treat yourself to a nice lunch and cold (also alcohol free) beer and then an easy ride back down.

Please note: charging stations are not available, but in planning. Fountains on the way are available.

Enjoy the ride, but stay alert — cars use this road too.

    Shuttle bus

Groups can conveniently reach our Baita using the shuttle bus service operated by the City of Bellinzona–Carasc, available upon reservation.

The shuttle departs from Castione FFS station and takes you to the parking of Alpe Arami/Baita Arami. It operates three times a day and can be booked for groups of at least five people.

To make a reservation, please contact the official Carasc Infopoint at +41 58 203 14 50 at least three days in advance.

Updated timetables are available on their website.

    Rent a car or taxi

Another option if you don´t have your own car would be to rent a car. The company Mobility for example offers rentals right at the train station in Bellinzona.

Alpentaxi.ch offers taxi services in mountain areas.

    The story behind

A vision lead and realised by the Alpe Arami Foundation.

From what we know, the land on which the hut stands was last used as an alpine pasture over 60 years ago. The main structure of the hut originally served as an animal stable. After decades of abandonment, the Alpe Arami Foundation was established with the goal of bringing Arami back to life—a vision that reached an important milestone in 2020 with the opening of the newly renovated hut.

    The Alpe Arami Foundation

The initiative originated in 2012 with a group of local residents who sought to recreate the alp and establish a place where the significance of the land could be appreciated by both locals and visitors.

Giorgio Battaglioni, the former head of the foundation, played a key role in the planning and realization of the project. After his passing in 2024, his brother, Fabio Battaglioni, took the helm, continuing to uphold and pass on the values of the project. Marco Turchetti, who has witnessed much of the history of the Alp, serves as Vice President, while Diego Fenazzi, Isotta Bertinelli, Luigi Canepa, and Filippo Battaglioni complete the committee.

Baita Arami is more than just a hut; it is a place created by the locals to unite people and share the beauty of their valley with like-minded individuals.

    Association Amici Alpe di Arami

The Friends of Alpe Arami Association came to life in 2015.

Its aim is simple: to share the story of Alpe Arami and raise the funds needed to look after the alp and its hut, its farming traditions and history

The association is supported by membership fees, donations, and money raised through events and activities. It’s an independent, open group run by a committee and its members, and anyone is welcome to join and support with an annual membership fee (minimum CHF 30 per person).

For more infos write to Vincenzo Bellini (President of the association) at vbell@bluewin.ch.

    Geological landmark

Home to a Rare and Remarkable Stone

The special stones found at Alpe Arami are not just any rocks — they are a window into geological processes that took place deep beneath the Alps millions of years ago.

For Students, researchers, and professors from around the world Alpe Arami functions like an open-air laboratory. They come here to study and teach geology in the field, instead of just in classrooms.

When you visit, we invite you to simply enjoy the experience of standing on something truly rare and take in the unique energy of the place. Taking stones from the site is strictly forbidden, as they are protected. If you´d like to see one, we have a few stone specimens at our hut on display.

    Climbing nearby

The Valle di Gorduno climbing spots are located along the road leading up to Baita Arami. With ten sectors of varying difficulty, every climber can find the right route.

The access routes are short and mostly south-facing. The rock formations here are predominantly typical of Ticino “Gneiss”.

For those without a car we suggest renting one (for example at mobility.ch).

After a long day of climbing, you can recharge at our hut and perhaps even stay overnight, then explore more climbing the next day or simple relax .

    About us

Welcoming People from All Walks of Life

With more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, we felt ready for something different. Brought together by our shared values—love for nature, hiking, and simplicity—we met while walking the Camino de Santiago. Already then we were jokingly envisioning what it would be like to run an albergue (that´s how they call it in Spain) together.

In 2024, we turned that vision into reality by taking over the management of Baita Arami. During the summer, we live and work in the hut, welcoming guests of all kinds: from families with young children to 90-year-old nature enthusiasts, dedicated trail runners to couples who come to slow down and relax.

There’s something special about watching our guests continue their hike with a smile on their face. That feeling is what motivates us. Each season brings new encounters, fresh ideas, and valuable experiences, and everyone who stops by contributes in their own way.
